Let’s Talk About “Happy Places”

I always thought anywhere along PCH between Monterey & San Luis Obispo was mine. And sure, I’ll forever carry a torch for those places (I mean, who doesn’t?), but my studio – this is my true happy place. We’ve been through so much together, she’s always here for me. Whenever I’m doubting myself (a lot), she’s a reminder that I can do anything when I set my mind to it. And when I feel alone – guess who’s here, always waiting patiently for me to cross over the threshold? Yep. My studio.

So who knew what lay ahead for everyone? COVID-19 came along and any way you look at it – our lives will never be the same. That slogan, the one about ‘doing it together’ – that was no BS. I resented it at first because, no… I did that all alone, by myself. But those were my personal feelings. As a business owner, I had to close my business alongside countless others. It felt bad, but no, I was not alone.

And it was really tough, lots of neighboring businesses were able to remain open, but we had to wait. And I’m glad we did, it was a scary time (and still is!). And I admit, my happy place started to become my sad place. But after finally getting the green light to open again – like literally, less than 24 hours after that – a truck ran through our storefront! And the renovation, it took so long! But, I waited it out, and here we are – we’re finally open again!
